28th Annual Conference

Dear SEAM Family,

Our hands were full being the host of our 28th Annual NOFFBC conference here in our church. This is a province-wide convention for three days during the Holy week April 4-6, 2012. The NOFFBC (Negros Oriental Fellowship of Fundamental Baptist Churches, Inc.) is a local Christian organization that was formed with only 6 churches in 1984 for the purpose of church planting. Now we have 36 churches and groups.

Our guest speaker, REV. GIL BALIGNASAY, is an expert on the Topic "Raise Up a Child" and is the National Training Director of the internationally acclaimed World Teach. We prayed for more attendees and that their financial needs be sufficiently met. We had about 300 people who attended the conference.

The results of the conference were very good. First, We praise the Lord for the cooperation and commitment of our church members during the hosting of the conference. We saw the excitement of the members for this was the first opportunity to host the event. It was a pleasure observing their cooperation with each other; they knew their duties and roles during the 3-day affair.

Second, another outstanding result of the conference was the enhancement of family values. Conferees were able to understand the roles of each member of the family. This was a way of challenging the pastors and the members to continue the ministry of encouraging families to be steadfast in the faith and ministries.

Lastly, the pastors and churches were educated on the status of the organization and the individual churches, the organization’s finances and the contribution of each local church for the local church planting program.

These people came from all over the province representing 36 churches. We ended the conference with a candle lighting ceremony. The ceremony gave solemnity to the commitment and occasion.

Honoring 30 Years of Dedication

Pastor Epafras T. Acar and his wife Lolita

This month we’d like to honor one of our devoted pastors who has been with us for 30 years as of this month. Pastor Epafras T. Acar lives in Bais City, Philippines. He went to Hawaii for an evangelistic training conference in October 1981 and was privileged to meet our founder Dr. L. Thomas Rayner, and our current President, Dr. Madison W. Patrick who was Vice president at the time. In March of the following year, Pastor Acar was invited to join SEAM, Inc. as a church planting pastor.

Pastor Acar is married to Lolita and they have four children: the oldest works in Manila and is soon to be married. The second born has left his teaching job to join his father in ministry; God has called him to plant a church in Dumaguete City, Philippines. Their daughter, who works at a call center, and youngest son, who is still in college, are helping their big brother plant the church. Read more

Lessons on Legacy

Pastor Acar's father, Gregario Acar

In my elementary school days, my father brought me during the summer to a sugarcane plantation that he managed. I plowed and furrowed the sugarcane farm and sometimes I joined the laborers in weeding and cleaning the plantation. That was my parents’ system of training me to do simple work and their way of preparing me to support myself. With the salary I received during those two months, I bought my clothes and pants, including the books and notebooks which I used at school.

My father was the administrator of the three parcels of sugarcane farmland owned by a hardworking couple. The husband was an engineer and his wife managed their two drug stores. They really trusted my father and they gave him all the workload in operating the farm. He listed all the names of the workers during the working days and also summed up and wrote their respective salaries. I know he never had dummy laborers! He showed honesty and integrity to his subordinates and to the farm owners. Read more

Typhoon Sendong Update

Dear SEAM,

Thank you for your concern. We are very happy to know that God has prepared people to encourage us!

To begin with, thank God that their lives were spared (our church members). One of the flood victims is a pastor's wife named Thelma Saroma, who is also, at present, a volunteer choir director in our mission church in Tanjay City. She had just lost her husband in July last year when they transferred to the Island of Sequijor in Central Visayas to start a mission work there, but her husband died of a heart attack a week after they arrived in that Island. So, she opted, together with her only son, to transfer in Tanjay City last May 2011, to join in our team of missionaries as a volunteer Sunday School teacher and choir director, and at the same time handling classes in our local campus ministries here. A Fulfilling Ministry

By Pastor Epafras T. Acar, SEAM Philippines

My dream and desire is to finish my ministry with the Lord well. Like Paul, I pray that each of us can confidently shout, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

In studying the life of Paul, one draws some sketches why he was triumphant in his service for the Lord. The story of his initial meeting and conversation with the risen Christ discloses startling clues about the foundation of Paul’s success and fulfillment in his service for the Lord. Read more

Philippine Report – December 2011

Dear SEAM Board and Supporters,

Have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year to you and your family.

A few days from now, God willing, we will set our feet to start for our journey for another year. May this coming year be full of opportunities for the ministry. We are assured of God’s sufficient grace and blessings for life and ministry.

My wife and children recognize God’s abundant blessings to us through your love and generosity. We treasure the privilege of being partners in our service to the Lord. We don’t have the time to fellowship with you face to face, but we share many victories and even ministry failures. These experiences have contributed to continued growth and maturity. Read more

Typhoon Sendong Affected Church in Tanjay City

Report from Pastor Acar – Philippines

We praise God that we were not affected here in Bais City, but our fellow believers in Tanjay City experienced the calamity that was brought in by typhoon Sendong. The Tanjay church was started as our outreach 6 years ago. Their missionary pastor, Pastor Ruben P. Genilla (his house and family were spared) told me that Mrs. Thelma P. Sombilon lost her belongings due to the overflowing waters of Tanjay river. Her appliances, books and the Bibles, which were her treasures from her deceased husband, Pastor David Saroma, were submerged in the murky waters! She assists the ministry in teaching values to the pupils in Tanjay City public schools. She is a widow and sister of Pastor Genilla’s wife. Read more
